Most of you know that the Allison Izu team is more like a family than a business. For me, it’s tough to let people into my 10-plus-year-old baby of a business. But if I’ve learned anything over the last decade, it’s that I have to push myself to try new things to grow. So my new growth practice is Management and Team Building. Enter stage right: Nikki. She came on board the Allison Izu team about two weeks ago as our Boutique Manager, and she has been a Universe-send! As soon as she started, it felt like she was immediately part of the family. She brings tons of retail and management experience, and she’s a mom. We love Nikki and hope you will, too. Now that you know a little more about her, feel free to book a private styling appointment with Nikki. She is knowledgeable, friendly, and will find exactly what you need!
Allison: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Nikki: I was born and raised here in Hawai‘i. I grew up in Aiea. I don’t have any siblings, but I spent pretty much every weekday with my cousins after school. I am a mother, business owner, and now your store manager! Scott is my other "not-so-better half." LOL—kidding. My daughter, Kaci, is 19 and my son, Connor, will is 12. We spend most of our free time with Scott’s two boys, River and Shade.
What’s your favorite Allison Izu style?
The Becca V-Neck is my absolute favorite top paired with the Loren Kimono. Throw those on with some straight-leg pants or denim and you are good to go!
When you take photos, what do you wear?
I love shooting in jumpers. It's dressy enough to shoot events in and casual enough to wear with slippers and shoot a family session on the beach. I've regretted wearing dresses while shooting in the past because squatting became very difficult without being inappropriate.
What do you think your IZU Body type is and how do you dress your body type?
I'm thinking I am an "A.” My top is very small in comparison to my hips. I've been really liking the high-waisted, wide-leg pant look with a fitted top tucked in. It accentuates my small top and waist, but gives my lower area room to breathe.
What is your favorite subject to photograph? What is your eye drawn to?
My absolute favorite thing to photograph would have to be kids. This goes back to where Nikki Jennifer Photography started—with families. They are my heart and soul. Chasing kids around, making them laugh and capturing each moment in between the "stand still and smile" photos are the absolute best! But as far as photos that get my creative juices flowing, fashion has been wonderful. Working with so many amazing models on the island makes my job so much easier.
Why do you love retail and helping people find the perfect style? What is about clothing that you think people can find their authentic self?
Making people feel good in the clothes that they are in means everything! I love seeing how excited someone gets when they find a pair of pants or a dress that just fits and makes them feel like a million bucks. Being able to help each individual person style their wardrobe to fit their personality is probably what makes retail so much fun for me. I've built beautiful relationships with my clients over the past years and the trust and confidence they have in me is priceless.
How do you bring out your personality and personal style through fashion?
I've learned to pick my wardrobe based on if it will look OK with my tattoos or not. If you know me, you know I stay away from heavy or bold prints and colors because both my arms are covered in permanent accessories. I love black and basics. I like to keep things pretty simple.
